Introducing Jodee Nelson

Hello everyone,
  • I am  an assistant professor at Pierpont Community and Tech College in the Resp Care Program. I live in Fairmont with my 4 legged best bud, Rocky, but am a transplant from Cleveland , Ohio where my family resides. 2 grown children and my 94 y/o mother.
  • I am a digital/technology semi-literate. I was not born with a cell phone in my hand, but can remember when 'car' phones were invented. I hope to gain information and confidence to jump into the digital fray.
  • I have watched the video once and needed to review it, way to fast for my slow comprehension.
  • That's how information technology is.... fast
    •  Information literacy is knowing where and how to find the information sources.
    •  How to locate the information within those sources
    • How to determine whether the information found is accurate, reliable, and valid; and how to use that information to further knowledge.
    •   Definition of Information Literacy

  2. Aww - another Clevelander! I'm grew up in Painesville and lived in Chardon (both in the eastern suburbs) before moving to WV about three years ago. My family all lives up there too, and we go back to visit as often as we can get there (I miss my parents! :) Where exactly are you from? What brought you to WV?

    1. I grew up in Berea, lived in Garfield Hts and settled in Parma after a divorce(friendly).I accepted my teaching position at Pierpont C&TC in the Respiratory care program. I love it here, but do miss my family. Although not as bad as when I first arrived.I loved the quaintness of Chardon, but the snow belt is a doozy.

  6. Hi, Jodee. I'm curious as to why you chose this class when you are in the resp care program at Pierpont. I like your picture of how cyclic information literacy can be.

  8. Some teachers feel semi-literate in a classroom full of technology savy students. Trying to stay ahead of the game can be tough, but working through Grad school is an accomplishment to keep us motivated.

  9. I, too, am a visual learner and appreciate the graphic. I remember when car phones were for the rich. One of my bosses had one and it was amazing! Funny how quickly technology advances and makes things accessible to us common folk.
